I’ve been seeing faces in objects
They watch silently
Judging me
Sneering at my prospects
I’ve been hearing voices in the wind
Like a bloodhound
Sniffing ‘round
Howling for its kin
Lately, I’ve noticed people staring
Then they look away
Join the fray
Before our eyes meet
Lately, I’ve heard strangers swearing
Whispered words
Their faces blurred
Then turning in retreat
I’m not going crazy
I’m just a little tired
They say: “Thanks for coming,
We’ll be in touch”
But I’m not getting hired
Anytime soon
I used to know a real nice girl
Who kept me on my toes
But where the hell she is these days
God only knows
Probably in some rich guy’s
Penthouse bedroom
And she should be
She always was too good for me
Lately, I’ve been losing track of the day
The long weekends
Never seem to end
And never really start
Lately, I’ve been losing my way
I hear echoed laughs
As familiar paths
Shift and break apart
I’m not going crazy
I’m just a little tired
They say: “We’ll keep your resume on file”
But I’m not getting hired
And no one seems to care
I used to know a real nice girl
I took to off-Broadway shows
But where the hell she is these days
God only knows
Probably has a bunch of kids
Who got her eyes and hair
I hope she does
No use crying ‘bout lost loves
I’ve been seeing faces in objects
They watch eagerly
Condemning me
Sneering at my prospects
